Why
New Years Resolution’s don’t work
The fitness and weight loss industries look
forward to the New Year because this is the time when more people join
health clubs and start diet programs resolving to lose weight and get
into shape.
Why is it then that more than half of these “resolvers” give up by
February? They had good intentions so what happened? I should know
because for more years than I care to disclose, I used to be one of
those “resolvers”.
You see, I was a busy working Mom, owner of an insurance business. I
knew that exercise was good for me and that I could tone up and lose
weight, therefore I, like many of you, would form a New Years Resolution
to do it. I wanted a quick fix. I quit when the exercise program seemed
to be eating away at time. I convinced myself that my world would
function better and things would be easier if I did not take time for
myself to become more fit right now but I resolved that I would do it
later, when I had more time. Lucky for me, I now balance my time to
include exercise as part of my routine and I make healthier nutrition
choices. I look forward to helping others achieve their fitness
potential for living a happier and healthier lifestyle.
Try to imaging how you want to feel when you’re 60 or 70 or 80. Do you
want to be able to play hide and seek with your grandchildren or great
grand children? Climb the stadium steps to watch a football game?
Grocery shop and load your car with bags of groceries? Not get winded
while walking your dog? Have stamina enough to swim in the ocean and
walk the boardwalk? Is your dream to tour Europe? Think about how great
it will feel being able to walk through the airports, stroll through the
streets of France and England enjoying your independence.
Begin by restructuring how you think about your fitness goals. Examine
how you want to live and what things you want to do with your life.
Start taking steps to get more fit now, and make fitness a habit for
today and everyday. Think of fitness like brushing your teeth- you don’t
think about it, you just do it. Care for your body so that you can
continue to feel the pleasure of being fit and fully alive now and as
you grow older.
